System Check

Hi, I see this message on my system check page...

PHP Cli >= 5.2 (/usr/bin/php)
PHP CLI (>= 5.2) binary is required. Video uploads, video conversion, video importing, video embedding and other important features will not work without the PHP CLI binary!

Is this something i need to sort out on my VPS?

Thanks.

Re: System Check

Do you have php binary installed? It might be in /usr/local/bin/php, also if open_basedir or safe_mode is enabled you need to disable these in php.ini.

Re: System Check

No i wouldnt. Contact your hosting company and ask them to tell you the path for the PHP CLI path.

Re: System Check

Hey Simmo.
Then go to your admin panel, home > config > server tab and enter the path and click save.

Re: System Check

thanks Pete i went to the server tab and noticed that /usr/bin/php is already in that field. I hit save anyway and system check still shows same message?

Re: System Check

Strange that your host would tell you the path if it isn't installed.
You need to drop them another email seeing as it's not a dedicated server and you can't install it yourself from root and ask them to install it for you.
While you're at it make sure everything else is installed before you email them.
Hopefully it's not your case but SOME VPS's don't have everything required for video conversions etc.
If you have any problem with them installing the requirements let me know.

I just had to ask them for a free FFMpeg install which i've now got to wait for an available admin to install the script. Thanks pete ill report how it goes.

Re: System Check

Hostgator are ok but not the best.
Level 3 has minimum specs for the $40 they charge.
I have a dedicated server I can throw you on should you need it, I wouldn't even charge you as much as you're paying now.
Anyway, let's wait to see what they say.

Re: System Check

Really? Thing is i really dont know all this server stuff and its messy stuff to try and learn. Here is my chat with hostgator when trying to ask about the installation for the PHP CLI Path...

Hostgator: It should already be installed. You just have to go into shell and type php command.
Simmo: sorry i dont understand that?
Simmo: what is shell?
Hostgator: It's kind of like a back end into your VPS. We do not support it over the phone or in Live Chat. You would need to ask support@hostgator.com if you need more information that that.

So as well as having FFMpeg problems with them and them wanting to charge me extra $75 for a Full FFMpeg installation ive now got to contact support for this aswell?  ...I just want to start building my ASP up lol !

This dedicated server sounds interesting but iv'e got a feeling it might confuse me even more. I just want to upload the site and press play. Is this possible?

Thanks again smile

My servers already have everything installed. If you wanted to hop over to my dedi you're more than welcome to, I'll set everything up for you as it doesn't take long at all. The only thing you'd have to do is set up the nameservers and both IPs from your domain registrar.
Save yourself the $75 and the $40 a month they want to charge.
I don't use anything apart from dedicated servers, haven't for the last few years, only way to go.
I'll charge you $30 a month, full DirectAdmin and FTP access.
We share the same interest with the same script, I wouldn't have an issue with it at all.
Something for you to chew on, just let me know.

Re: System Check

I only use Paypal but you can use CC for payment with them to send anyway.
We can figure that out later, let's just get you up and running.
Email me your MSN Messenger if you have it.

Re: System Check

If you have cpanel, then try: /usr/local/bin/php (i'm 99% thats the path). If they give you ssh root access, you can just order the Server Setup from us and i can install and configure ffmpeg, yamdi and qt-faststart for you. Yes it is possible, to upload, a few clicks and then ready to upload, but your server needs to be configured before doing this sad

Re: System Check

Thanks symtab, Iv''e taken Pikeypete's offer with the dedi so now im Happily emailing hostgator to cancel my shitty VPS with them.
I advise anyone who wants to open a VPS account with hostgator to build tube sites not to! ...YOU WILL have to order extra add-on's (Full FFMpeg install $75) to enable videos to stream on ya site!

EDIT... Plus there support Sucks!!

Re: System Check

I had the same probs with HostGator years ago already. Now i´m since 2 years on Certified Hosting. All their servers - even the shared hosting ones up from $3.95 - are TUBE READY. I ran my Vshare script their on a shared server for about 1 year without any probs before i moved to a dedicated machine from them. Their support is as great as you have it here.

Re: System Check

Just throwing my two cents in - not trying to trash your host Ben tongue

I was with CertifiedHosting originally. They told me in advance that sometime within a week they were moving me to a different server. They were to contact me when it was to happen, so that I wouldn't do any updates and thus break the continuity between my site on Server A and the new Server B.

They never contacted me. Site was down for 18 hours. wink Server was a mess with old and new files mixed. They also didn't do a backup before the move.

Downtime was 18 hours on their end. On my end it took me soooo much time to get the site back to normal.

Since then I've been with AYK Solutions. Their prices are damned good and support is rock solid.

Also, like you all, I had Symtab who told me a few wonderful words with each stumbling block. "Don't worry, I'll fix it."

Maybe this was the time when they moved to their new data Center. Of course they have their issues too - humen are working there lol . They moved my shared account with 3 forum websites and the tube to the dedicated machine in about 3 hours. After a little fine tuning all was back online tongue

I think even their shared hosting planes are the best ones ever. They are tube ready with all features for real less money and if you start your own tube it´s a cheap way tongue . Last but not least you can install your own shoutcast server - host your own radio on a shared account.
