Server Options - Apache + Lighty, Lighty, Nginx

So for a very heavily trafficked site (lets go with 5000 concurrent serving 2000000 a day) what do you think would be the best server setup for ASP?  Apache + Lighttpd or a straight Lighttpd or a straight Nginx setup?

EDIT:  This is hypothetical folks.  Stop emailing me with SEO questions please.  smile

When you have 5000 concurent users, thats a lot. And i mean like a lot. You will need need like 2-3-4 servers for that, with load balancing, memcache...but dont worry about that, with 5000 concurent users you make > 6000$ only (with a 1% click rate, not taking into action PPS or anything else). I personally would got straight for Lighttpd (i never used nginx, but i've heard its better than lighttpd). I think 2 lighttpd + fcgi servers for php and video streaming, behind a pound server for load balancing, a separate server mysql (only needs CPU/RAM...not bandwidth, internal network) and one server with tons of RAM (probably one of those AMD 16 cores + 36GB RAM, which are cheap, we only care about the RAM for this server, no bandwidth, internal network) for memcache. I dont know, probably total cost of the servers would be somewhere at 2000-3000$. We have a few clients that get 1000-1500 concurent users (all of them are on one server).

Not on the servers where i use lighttpd + php-fcgi, but during my tons of lighttpd + flv_streaming/h264_streaming + secdownload ocasionaly there were clients that reported that lighttpd uses all the memory, like 1 from 30-40 users (i cant estimate exactly, its over a period of 2-3 years).

Re: Server Options - Apache + Lighty, Lighty, Nginx

Are You Sure About The Traffic What You Say As You Say 20,00,000 Lakh User A Day Which Is High Volume And Your Ranking Should Be Between 1 Lakh In Aleax But Leave It...........As Per My Suggest You can Use Any Software But What Yo Need Is Load Balancer For These Many Users And Server Of Good Hosting Company It Also Depend On Quality Of Server How Good It Works As I Have Seen In 3 Years Some Web hosting Companies Server Are To fat And Some Are To Low In Response Because What they Say They  Do Not provide So Try To Use Test Servers............ And If your Budget Is Good then You can try To use Cloud Servers I Tested Once They Are Fast Enough For That Type Of Content And Sites

Re: Server Options - Apache + Lighty, Lighty, Nginx

Try Apache 2.4 seems to have greatly improved compared to Apache 2.2: the throughput is ~1.7 times better than the previous stable version. But at the moment is not supported by Cpanel sad

Also i have changed from lighttpd streaming to apache streaming and servers are stable and faster now ( never had a problem from then ) . With lighttpd i had to reboot all servers every day.

Re: Server Options - Apache + Lighty, Lighty, Nginx

Interesting.   I haven't looked up Apache 2.4 so I will go research that.  @Symtab, I have been reading about using Apache2 to server your dynamic content and Lighty to server your static / memcached content.  Do you think there is benefit to this?  @Eri, I remember seeing in the forum that you were getting Nginx setup.  How did that work out with ASP?

For everyone that keeps emailing me about how to get their site to this level of traffic, please read the first post.  This is hypothetical and thinking long-term.  I would love to have that traffic.  I am trying to compare the different benefits of different server setups and what the most you could squeeze from a box would be.

Re: Server Options - Apache + Lighty, Lighty, Nginx

I havent been reading about Apache 2.4, but what i know is that Apache + mod_php is faster than Apache + php_cgi/fcgi or lighttpd + php_fcgi or nginx + php_fcgi, the trick is to only serve PHP files with Apache, no html, no images, nothing except PHP.
