#26 Re: Development » MySQL 5.6 GA releases in a couple of days » 2013-02-10 16:46:04

Honestly, I would follow cpanel.  I wouldn't release anything related to an upgrade until they do.  So many people use cpanel in the world to manage their sites.  I haven't even seen a post on the cpanel forum about an upgrade to 5.6 besides the couple of posts asking about testing 5.6.  All those posts were about the rc version of 5.6.

Everyone else who is managing their site without a control panel probably will update MySQL themselves.

As far as mysql, mysqli, or pdo - I would totally go pdo.  It's really nice to work with pdo.  I use it over mysqli.

Regarding the same problem. I own a twerking (booty sharking) domain, and there are only a few legal videos related to twerking. Youtube has tons of videos. I wonder if i'm allowed to embed those videos. Also since they allow you to play youtube videos in your own player (not hotlinking, jw and nuevo player supports this), i also want to do this.

Why wouldn't you be allowed to embed the videos?  There are a million sites which embed YT videos.  The worst that can happen is if the video is removed from YT.  Though, there are plenty of ways to code and check if the YT video is still available.  I know of a couple of scripts which have YT checking to make sure the videos are still valid.

As I was thinking, you might not want to add a YT embed feature to ASPro unless you make a non-adult ASPro and brand it different.  I've never seen a YT video on an adult website.  Ever.  Though, I know one of your competitors is offering a version of their script as non-adult with YT videos.  They brand the product as a non-adult version of the script.  So, you can get the adult version (no YT) or the non-adult version (YT).

Copyright infringement is international.  Even if you have the server offshore, the country you host the content in can come after you.  Like the post above said, unless it's china or iran you won't be safe.

You are not the first person to put full length movies on the internet.  It's been done before.  Considering that I can watch most of the movies, on your site, on VOD or HBO do you really think you are going to get the same numbers of people on your site as a porn site.

My advice, use ASPro for porn... you can make a lot more money!

#33 Re: Show Off » my NO adult full length movie site » 2013-02-08 18:01:30

You should just make clip-movies.com a porn site.  Being that most affiliates use 'clips' of their porn movies... you could have a pretty good PPC or PPS conversion.  Then you wouldn't get in trouble.

Using copyrighted porn is one thing... using copyrighted movies is another.  If you get big and garner attention be prepared to be taken down.  Those motion picture movie companies don't fuck around.

Other than that, site looks nice.  Movies play well.

You might want to try Gorilla Servers http://www.gorillaservers.com for $99 you get 16GB Ram, 4 core Xeon, 3 TB of space, and unmetered 100Mbit connection.  They actually advertised that Adult sites were ok on web hosting talk.  It's a great deal for a dedicated server - cPanel is an extra $25 a month on top of the $99 if you use it.  Good luck with your site!

I hope your Script (ASPro) would solve that problem.

Now i need you to recommend me a dedicated server under $100 per month as i am ready to buy my ASPro Script in or before the end of March 2013.

I hope to get a reply as soon as possible, so i can make my budget for the script and hosting.

Do i heed a video player for the script? If yes, any free one available online?

What else do i need to get the script/site running asap

BTW...i just read mysql is considered outdated in PHP as of PHP 5.5 sad We have to move to mysqli which is faster anyway. PDO would be better, but thats one more dependency sad

Yea, I've been using PDO for quite some time now in all the script I've written.   You can still use mysql in PHP the only thing the PHP team did was add an depreciated error when you use mysql.

As far as the new MySQL they've changed it a lot.  The performance is over the top.  They've moved a bunch of stuff around... my.cnf is located in the /usr/shared vs. /etc now.  They've also streamlined the options for InnoDB.  I think it's kind of childish for Fedora not use MySQL anymore just because some of their tests aren't public anymore - truly 'Open Source'.  There are plenty of great pieces of software out there which aren't 100% Open Source.

I'm not sold on MariaDB 100% (I don't really like the name either) though everything I've been reading has been good.  I honestly think that any change will come from Cpanel.  If Cpanel moves to use MariaDB as there choice then everyone will change.  So, many novice users use Cpanel to manage their sites.

Honestly, I thought about moving to PostgreSQL for all my projects.  There isn't a whole lot of code I would have to change and PostgreSQL is SOLID.

#38 Re: Development » MySQL 5.6 GA releases in a couple of days » 2013-01-26 15:17:37

Yea, I read about that.  Many people aren't too happy with the way Oracle is running MySQL.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

#39 Re: Feature Requests » Games » 2013-01-25 21:52:08

IMHO... I would omit adding a specific games section to the script.  I know, it's great to have a lot of features.  But, after researching a lot of adult sites out there, many of them don't have games.  The reason:  Games can get you into a lot of trouble.

If someone out there decides they want to bring your website down, and you have games, it's easy to say that a character in one of the games on your site, is a child and that you have child porn on your adult website.  I use to run a games site back in the day which had an adult section.  I removed the entire section when I learned that the child porn laws had/have changed to cover the depiction of children in animated form.  So, there becomes a fine line of what someone things is a kid in a game or not.  Added, the "authorities" can easily prove that games = kids which in a nutshell means your adult website = promoting to children.

Having the ability to upload SWF files is one thing... committing to an entire game section / module is another.  I'm not the developer, it's not up to me to add something or not.  Just friendly advice.

If you're a website owner and you think offering adult games is a added bonus, go for it, but remember that the games you upload could get you in more trouble then it's worth.

FYI.  Webmasters running FCGI as their config may run into problems with processes timing out.  The default timeout for FCGI is 40 seconds.  If that isn't adjusted either in the php.ini, php.conf, or on the server level and a process like scraping takes longer than 40 seconds you will receive a 500 internal server error.

FULLTEXT is available in INNODB as of 5.6... I'm using it in my script.  Using mysql 5.6.7 rc-1 => not a single problem.

#45 Re: Troubleshooting » MYSQL Is Crashing » 2012-10-12 18:26:50

Make sure you create a my.cnf file for mysql.  In the my.cnf file you can increase / decrease various options for mysql.  The default values for mysql are low - my opinion.  You might be running into the max number of connections for mysql.  So, you might need to increase that number.

In the php.ini you might want to set mysql.allow_persistent = on.

I posted a thread on adding a my.cnf in one of these forums.

Though, I've had to stop developing ASP for the moment, to work on another script I'm developing, I've switched over to all INNODB.  I'm using the newest version of mysql 5.6.7 rc1 and everything is running great.

One important item I would like to note:  Those of you running cPanel - make sure you are using Host Access Control.  I had a hacker into my server in about a month.  If you aren't securing your server then there might be other processes going on that will stop the server when it's under a heavy load.

If anyone needs help optimizing their server, just let me know and I can take a look.

Tried to install Sphinx on Centos 5.8 and had some problems.  If you are running into problems, then read this post.

Got these errors

error: Failed dependencies:
libmysqlclient.so.15 is needed by sphinx-2.0.5-1.rhel5.i386
libmysqlclient.so.15(libmysqlclient_15) is needed by sphinx-2.0.5-1.rhel5.i386

So, I needed to install

wget http://mirrors.dedipower.com/www.mysql.com/Downloads/MySQL-5.5/MySQL-shared-compat-5.5.23-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

then

rpm -ivh MySQL-shared-compat-5.5.23-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

then

wget http://sphinxsearch.com/files/sphinx-2.0.5-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

then

rpm -ivh sphinx-2.0.5-1.rhel5.i386.rpm

and finally got it installed.

Ok.  That might be the file you need to modify.  Just add one of the lines to your file above and check the config with the command in my original post and see if it reflected your addition to the file (make sure to restart the mysql service after you save).

When I opened the my.cnf on my system it only had three lines of code.  Normal logic would tell someone that when they open the file it would list all the variables that can/need to be adjusted... kinda like a php.ini file... it already has all the variables, you just need to adjust them.  The my.cnf is the opposite.  What you want to adjust you have to add.  Otherwise, MySQL will just use the default values it stores in another file.  The my.cnf over-rides default values, but you need to add those values to the file first.

Your distro is different from mine yours == fedora mine == centos so there might be some minor differences.  If you can't get it to work google "fedora adjusting my.cnf".

Check to make sure you have nano:

# whereis nano

Then check the location of my.cnf:

# whereis my.cnf

It also might be possible that you aren't allowed to modify the file... if you are on shared hosting.

Most likely you just have to find it in Fedora.  I'm running CentOS and it's located in etc/my.cnf.

I've found an interesting article on MySql Database Optimization.

You can find the whole article here:  http://mysqldatabaseadministration.blog … guide.html

You must have access to a program like PuTTy to access the shell and you need to modify a file called /etc/my.cnf - we are going to do this by typing

nano /etc/my.cnf

after the

#

when you are logged into the shell account using PuTTy.

Note: using "nano" is like using a text editor.  Copy and paste the lines into the nano editor, then type control+x to save the file (it will ask you to type 'Y' to verify that you want to over-write the file.

This is what you need to add to /etc/my.cnf :

Decrease the value of connect_timeout: By default, the wait_timeout value is 28800. Unless you want MySQL to keep waiting for 28800 seconds (480 minutes or 8 hours), please decrease its value according to your application needs. On the test server, I have the wait_timeout set to 60.
wait_timeout=60

Increase connect_timeout from 5 to 10
connect_timeout=10

Decrease interactive_timeout from 28800 to 100
interactive_timeout=120

Increase join_buffer_size from 131072 to 1M
join_buffer_size=1M

Increase query_cache_size from 0 to 128M
query_cache_size=128M

Increase query cache limit from 1048576 to 2M
query_cache_limit=2M

Increase max allowed packet size from 1M to 16M
max_allowed_packet=16M

Increase table cache cache from 256 to 1024
table_cache=1024

Increase sort buffer size from 1M
sort_buffer_size=2M

Increase read buffer size from 1M
read_buffer_size=2M

Increase read_rnd_buffer_size to 4M
read_rnd_buffer_size=4M

Other settings

sort_buffer_size=8M
key_buffer = 256M
key_buffer_size=64M

After you make the changes you need to restart the MySQL service so that the changes will take effect:

# /etc/init.d/mysqld start

The below command will allow you to see all the mysql configs:

# mysqladmin variables

Adrian may have some additions to this.  The above settings I'm using on my server and queries are really fast.  It's important to note, my production server isn't running ASP... ASP is on my local development server.  So, I haven't actually used these settings with a running copy of ASP.  But the sites that I am running have become very fast.

Have fun!
