Just a personal experience with Plesk.

I have developed a server with Plesk CP and was the worst decision I have made. The reason!

Very difficult to install everything ( 10h work and research )
Apache was super slow (10 sec to open my page by gtmetrix.com)
Apache version 2.2 only
Support only php fcgi

To find a solution I changed dns back to my old server

I also do not like plesk. Why:
1. It used to be a pain to disable open basedir.
2. You are stuck with old versions of the server software.
3. Sometimes cron does not work.

I prefer nginx + php-fpm + mysql, however if its not possible, then i prefer cpanel.

Do you use php-fpm with apache?
I still have mod_php (DSO) as you installed it
You think I should change to php-fpm?

I have never used php-fpm with apache, only with nginx. It seems its good though:
