is to late to install Lighttpd to my server?

You can migrate from Apache to Lighttpd without any problems, just install lighttpd, install the required modules, stop apache and start lighttpd.

If you have ssh root access its never to late. Lighttpd will save you some bandwidth and hotlinking protection.

If you use CentOS i can give you a srpm, which is very very easy to build.
