1. Its possible.
2. It is possible to add player ads by sponsor.
3. This is a very very good idea and it can be implemented.
Sounds good, for #2 though I haven't figured out how to do this. What I want to do is make it so that whenever a specific User uploads a video a specific banner/text link appears under the video. In the HOWTO thread on advertising, it seems I need to specify User Player as position. However, how/where do I specify the User?
If I'm completely wrong, please let me know the process
Thanks.
Hi, I noticed a couple of threads on plans for advertising on videos, just thought I'd jump in with a couple of things (If any of this has been discussed, and/or in the plans, I apologize):
1) While adding Player Ads I noticed the video "breaks" if the URL is .. too long? (I tried with a couple of URLs with many parameters). Some sponsors do provide huge tracking URLS, which can be shortened using any of the online services (Bit.ly etc.). However, I would much rather have a URL showing that I want (i.e. just the domain, no tracking code) or none at all. Is this possible?
Example 1: (Google Ad-style - Shows a "Display" URL, a shortened version of the actual URL, typically just the domain as below)
SITE TITLE
Site Description
MYSITE.COM
Example 2: (Hide the URL entirely; Anywhere the user clicks on the ad takes them to the target URL anyway)
SITE TITLE
Site Description
Not sure what the configuration options are for FlowPlayer, but I'd hope something like either of the above is possible.
2) More of a question - and possibly a suggestion, is there a way to assign a Player Ad automatically to videos when they are added? Say by Username/Sponsor? If not would be nice instead of having to manually add to videos.
3) I have mass cvs uploaded a bunch of related videos but don't want to publish them immediately (so I don't have a home page with 20+ videos of the same niche). There are 2 options right now for Status when adding: Active and Suspended. So I use Suspended and then edit the status to Active when I want them published live on the site. Problem is, the Add Date value is set to when the video was uploaded, so when they are activated they don't appear at the top of the Newest Videos as the Add Date may be a few days old. This also applies to the RSS feed - the new video is placed in the feed according to it's upload date.
Would be nice if there was some option to either set the Add Date to when the video is published (Active), or any other way so that newly published (approved/activated) videos appear as the newest/most recent videos. (Editing the Add Date manually does nothing).
Sorry for the long read, wanted to be clear on the issues and suggestions
Just found out today that users aren't getting a confirmation email when they sign up - although I know it was sending out okay a few days ago. I can also send email through the Admin panel (Email->Send). I have it set up to use PHP Mail Function. Any ideas what the problem could be?
2. Admin -> Extend -> Language Manager -> en-US -> global and video
3. It can be done.
5. you i'm using ' instead of "? (just asking so i know for what to search).
2. Thanks, I found it just after I posted - Didn't realize you could edit language files in the Admin panel.
5. I just used the single-quote here for no particular reason; I believe double-quotes are used on the site (rel="nofollow", etc.)
2. For the box titles on the frontend, this feature is already available. You need to edit the language files for this, for example: "MOST RECENT PORN VIDEOS" is
'recent-title' on the frontpage (index) and 'browse-title' on the video browse page. For enable/disable parts of the template, i've created a widgets system, but it cannot be managed from the admin panel yet.
Widget system sounds ideal, as for the language file(s) could you be specific? I did notice a table in the database but no files.
3. This is the case of video-view-right and photo-right? So there could be video-view-right-1 and video-view-right-2?
Exactly.
5. So for the menus a new options to enabled/disable nofollow for a menu link. Will add.
Great. Going through some of the source on pages yesterday I did notice typos in some of the rel='nofollow' tags that you have (e.g. "no-follow"). I'd point out exactly where but I edited already on my end, shouldn't be hard to find.
Skimmed through a few threads here so hopefully nothing that has been mentioned previously
1) Validate Admin forms before submitting. For example, Upload Video could check to make sure all fields are valid (has a title, description, etc.) *before* the video is uploaded.
2) Edit page texts/components. Example, I'd rather use something besides "MOST RECENT FREE PORN VIDEOS". Minor thing but right now, I'd have to edit the pages/templates manually which is not a good idea. As for components, an example would be to not show (or replace) the Popular Members section on the Community home page.
3) Multiple Ads on pages. On some pages - Video Player is a good example - there's easily enough space to feature 2 ads, one over the other. Right now I'm using html inside the actual ad to force two to show. Works but obviously would be better if there was a direct option.
4) Users manually added should not have to validate emails. A minor point as well, but if I decide to add a user through the Admin panel - a dummy user for example - then I still have to put a valid email address in and then verify it manually. Would be nice if there was a way to auto-approve (i.e. no email validation required) a manually-added user account.
Edit:
5) Remove "nofollow" on menu links. The footer links for example are auto-nofollow, but if I want to add a link to be indexed I'd like to be able to have the option to switch this off.
Great, thanks - I'll wait for the update, not an emergency.
Couple of issues turned up today while testing the Advertising features.
1) I followed the HOWTO on setting things up, hoping to show a specific banner under a video, defined by category. So I created a new ad selecting "Video Player" for Position. Then I went to the Category manager and clicked on the Manage Category Advertising icon - brings up the window and under Video Player Advertising shows the ad I just created.
I click the checkbox and close it. Unfortunately, the ad doesn't appear on the view video page for that category. Okay, so I try to un-check, click Update but if I open the Manage Category Advertising again, it's still checked.
It seems to me that just by the wording "Video Player Advertising" is it intended to overlay on the video, or underneath? If the first, then okay - I don't have a Flowplayer licence. If the second, maybe I'm doing something wrong ... in any event, I can't un-check any which would seem to be an error/bug.
2) After failing that I edited the ad and changed Psition to "Video View Right". The ad now appears on every video regardless of category. So I go to Video/Categories and then Manage Category Advertising again. Under "Video View Right Advertising" the ad is listed and un-checked. So not sure what's happening - checking the box does nothing as the ad is showing anyway, and like the above example, I can't un-check it (it simply goes back to being checked if I re-open the menu).
Any idea what could be going on here?
By default, does "Video View Right" (and other Position options) place the ad on every video/category/etc.? If so then I would expect the ad to be checked in the Manage Category Advertising window so that we can un-check it ... or am I completely misunderstanding how this works?
I know, I'm asking a lot today Fresh install, lots of issues/questions...
One big one is that the main admin account is showing in the Community on the site - obviously not a good thing, visitors can see what the login is for the ASP Admin panel. Is there any way to disable accounts from being shown/listed on the site, or at least don't list Administrator accounts there? Suspending the account isn't advisable, locks you out from the Admin panel as well
Thanks.
I just tried the Embed Video option and it seemed to work, however when I click on the video (on the site) I get this error:
Query: SELECT COUNT(*) AS total_related FROM video_tags AS t INNER JOIN video_category AS c ON (c.video_id = t.video_id AND c.cat_id IN ()) WHERE t.name IN ('maya babe sex') AND t.video_id != 5
Error Message: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')) WHERE t.name IN ('maya babe sex') AND t' at line 3
Error Number: 1064
Plus, in the Manage Videos tab it doesn't show up; So I have no direct way of deleting the video.
(In fact, now the Manage Videos isn't showing any videos, there are 2: One embed, one upload ... neither showing)
Help
Just trying to add a lighttpd server and after completing the form completely, I'm getting the following error:
Query: INSERT INTO server SET server_name = 'test', ftp_host = 'MYHOST', ftp_port = 21, ftp_username = 'USER', ftp_password = 'PASS', ftp_root = 'MYFTPPATH', streaming_method = 'pseudostreaming', url = '', lighttpd_url = 'http://localhost:81', lighttpd_secdownload = '0', lighttpd_prefix = '', lighttpd_key = '', status = '1'
Error Message: Unknown column 'ftp_port' in 'field list'
Error Number: 1054
Checked the server table and sure enough there's no ftp_port field.
A fix, workaround? I don't want to go in and edit source code unless I have to.
Btw, I'm using "localhost" (port 81) as the server - is that okay? My domain isn't pointing to this server yet.
